Live View Golf Dramatically Accelerates Swing Learning Through Body Awareness

By December 6, 2016Blog, General News

We will be running an article about accelerating swing changes using Live View Golf in the PGA Tour Essentials Magazine.  The magazine will be available at all PGA Tour events and at TPC Courses nationwide.  The full article can be found here.  For a preview excerpt see the article below:

Feel vs. Real
As a group, golfers are voracious consumers of technical swing information. However, the typical golfer’s handicap remains fairly static with relatively little change from year to year. According to Patrick Parrish, co-founder of Live View Golf and 30 year teaching veteran, the reason the majority of golfers fail to break 100, 90, or 80 has nothing to do with a lack of knowledge. Instead, what most golfers lack is awareness of their own movements. Because much of the golf swing happens behind a player’s back it is almost impossible to know if the objective of making a particular swing is being met.

In order to change a player’s swing, it is imperative to monitor each movement to insure that the intended swing matches the actual swing. James Sieckmann, Golf Magazine top 100 and Golf Digest Top 50 Instructor and author of several golf instruction books, states that “The fundamental problem in golf is the difference between what a player feels and what is real… “ Without an objective reference, most players imagine what the correct swing feels like and attempt to make swing changes based on this imaginary feel without any understanding of what the real feeling is. According to Patrick, this approach is “a little like closing your eyes and trying to drive your car based on what you imagine the road in front of you to look like. Without actual verifi cation, driving with your eyes closed is a guaranteed disaster.”

The Mirror Doesn’t Lie.

In order to bridge the gap between feel and real, a key learning tool for many elite players is the mirror. Because the feedback in a mirror is instantaneous, players can verify the real club position against their internal swing feel and make very fine distinctions as to what the intended swing position really feels like. This “real” feeling is what enables elite players to strike a ball correctly and consistently in actual play.

Live View Golf: The Modern SwingMirror

For all the benefi t that mirrors provide, however, they are not without their flaws. The biggest issue with using mirrors is that they are bulky and fragile and as a result mirrors are not common on most driving ranges. In order to package the benefi ts of kinesthetic awareness provided by mirrors into a light and portable solution, Patrick Parrish teamed up with one of his student’s parents to create a solution using live wireless video. The result is the Live View Golf Camera.

Live View Golf provides the benefit of real-time feedback for a player’s swing using a modern live streaming wireless camera. The Live View Golf Camera connects to any iOS or Android device and pairs with a proprietary app, making it possible for a player to see their own swing from any angle while staying in posture. The app also provides additional benefits by transferring swing analysis tools back into the live video feed, thereby creating templates that make learning a new swing as simple as tracing lines and matching body positions. Live View Golf is today’s portable solution to greatly accelerate swing changes by increasing body awareness during the swing.
